I often wonder, as I eat my six three meals a day, how many kids are out there starving, half clothed, or eating scraps out of the trash. I think about those programs where you donate ten dollars a month and it feeds an entire African village. Even though your ten dollars is most likely paying for the generous company owner’s Double Quarter Pounder (with Cheese) for the day, this gesture is incredibly selfless! Imagine what one hundred thousand dollars could do for those villages, or one million, or, 2.5 million dollars.
Two words: The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. If you are a middle-aged man whose wife is no longer desirable in bed by eight, you may have enjoyed yourself during this show. If you are a teenage girl whose self-esteem doesn’t exist, you may have watched this (and purged at commercial breaks). If you’re trying to get fashion ideas for the next ‘Underwear and Ridiculously Uncomfortable Accessories’ party, you definitely watched the Fashion Show. I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the show myself. In admiration, I stared in self-loathing at the models that get paid my yearly wages (x600) to walk for 60 feet down a runway.
In many ways, the models and the children of the world are similar. They haven’t received proper education, and have gone weeks, maybe months without food. For some reason, we only feel bad for the children. Sarcasm aside, this brings about my point. One of the models, Miranda baby, wore a 2.5 million dollar bra. Please tell me the reasoning for such a creation. It will never be worn. It can’t be eaten. It doesn’t clothe anyone. Why spend that much money for 15 seconds of a fashion show? I wonder why the poor countries suffer so.
The next time you fasten your 18-dollar bra from Wal-Mart, think about Miranda and the sacrifice she made for the world. She has changed the face of fashion forever. Her strides to save the carelessly clothed have left an impact greater than that of Mother Teresa, Abraham Lincoln, and most importantly, Angelina Jolie. Thank you Victoria’s Secret. Our eyes have been opened. I know mine were, the entire show.
